Sophie Scholl…

…Went to see Sophie Scholl last night, a film based on the true events of the student resistance movements in Nazi Germany. Excellent film, mostly brilliantly acted, very powerful and moving… but guarenteed to depress you for the rest of the evening, so don’t – as we tried to do – go and celebrate someones birthday directly after it…

New House and Poker…

Written by neil on February 27, 2006 at 8:47 am in Uncategorized

…feeling a little more settled in the house now. Little things are starting to get on my nerves already, but they are only minor and the “testing” will be good for me I am sure.

We had a great time over at Sarah and Nicks yesterday afternoon, laughing until it hurt. If Tony Blair ever gets shot by a ballbearing fired from a hamster we will be able to say we predicted it first…

Poker last night was not a success (for me!) although unlike the last washout night I had at least I had some playable hands, I just played them badly. It would be wrong of me to be bitter about Sarahs three sixes beating my pocket pair of Aces, or Steve stealing an all in bet by getting a three on the river to complete a very unlikely looking straight. I am not bitter at all… (you wait for Saturday, revenge I tell you, revenge…)

Olympics…

… I admit that I don’t see the point of the Olympics, as Jack Dee says it is just “Sliding, in all its various forms”. But why do we only have a Summer and Winter Olympics? Imagine how much fun an Autumn Olympics would be.

Events could be things such as Running through dry leaves, or Lawn Raking, or perhaps Bonfire Building.

Day off…

Written by neil on February 23, 2006 at 3:13 pm in Uncategorized

…Having a day off today for several reasons…

1. To recover from the 5 pints of Abbot consumed with nick last night
2. To finish The Fifth Mauntain by Paulo Coelho. Thanks Dennis, I will get the book back to you.
3. To open the Amazon parcel that arrived this morning and listen to the CDs (reviews to follow, no doubt)
4. To enjoy the white fluffy stuff falling outside
5. To make a start on the mountain of washing
6. To “get to know” the house
7. To check the 112 emails that have built up over the last week (110 of them were junk…)
8. To drink coffee

Cleaning and printing….

Written by neil on February 22, 2006 at 9:32 am in Uncategorized

… Thanks to Ivonne for helping me to clean the old house, I smell like bleach even this morning, nice.

On the way home at about 10pm last night I spotted a printers based in Summerland Street. The sign claimed Printing non-stop in Exeter since 1870 , I knocked on the door and no response, from the outside I could certainly not hear any printing presses in operation. I think they lie, and in fact do take breaks.

Google…

…Hello to the person who found this page looking for very old things that are really boring. I hope you found some dull old things to amuse you.

Thanks to Jack the Lass for the package of chocolate, it served as a great house warming gift :)

Moved in…

Written by neil on February 20, 2006 at 8:58 am in Uncategorized

…I am now all moved in! Everything has found a place in my room, my cupboard in the kitchen is bulging full and I have a shelf in the fridge.

Internet is not up and running, I plugged the cable in and realised I know nothing about how internet actually works. I think we need an expert to come in and help set up a wireless connection… any wireless experts out there?

If you want to message me it will have to be either through the comments here, or if you are a Ship of Fools forum member you can use the message system there.

It’s a shame, I have been taking some fun photos of the house but can’t get them online yet!

Poker win…

Written by neil on February 17, 2006 at 9:24 am in Uncategorized

Thanks to all last night for such a fun game of poker (and finally I won something!). There were some really interesting hands played, and some even more interesting conversation. In-joke alert I certainly never realised eating cake could be incest.

Dream…

Written by neil on February 16, 2006 at 12:31 pm in Uncategorized

… I dreamt last night that I was walking through Bristol, the sky was all sorts of colours, as I walked around the corner (one that does not actually exist, in reality I would have walked into a solid cliff face) I saw a strange lumpy hill ahead, I went to my bag for my camera but by the time I got it out the sky had gone grey and a man walking a dog started talking to me, he was telling me that the Arctic Monkeys single was out and I could get it in a stall nearby. I then felt a pawing on the ear and I woke up thinking a cat was in the room, but there was no cat.

When I left the house for work in the morning the cat flap had been forced open, but the sky was normal colour, and I was not in Bristol.
